Author Interview "Kate Kasch"

Please tell our readers a little about yourself.

I have lived in my current home a little over three years, which is the longest I've ever lived anywhere since I left home for college at 18. Some might describe my energy as frenetic? I have a hard time sitting still, which is ironic for an author.

Could you tell us a bit about your book and why it is a must-read?

Jane Street is a fast-paced murder mystery intertwined with high fashion, hauntings, and New York City history all in one. The main character, Verity, has clairvoyant gifts and can feel the pain and suffering of the dead who come to her for help to expose the killer.

What inspired you to write your book?

While researching New York City ghost stories for fun (who doesn't love a good ghost story?!) - Alexander Hamilton's name kept emerging as a ghost who's still hanging around. I then began to research Hamilton and his tragic story -- and the idea for Jane Street was born. I have always wanted to write mysteries, so I knew I had the story idea and I just thought, why not now?

What was the most challenging aspect of writing your book?

The editing! Oy.

Do you have any unique or quirky writing habits?

I like to write in public, not in complete silence -- maybe that's due to having four kids and being used to noise and chaos. So I would often write in coffee shops and at the library.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

Alexander Hamilton took his last breath on Jane Street -- his blood staining the floor of his best friend's home, and his ghost seen on the street at night. This book will be the first in a series of murder mysteries, all taking place in a different haunted location in New York City -- and each book named for that haunted place.

Is there a message you want your readers to take away from your book?

Pure enjoyment (and you'll learn some real American history too!)

Do you have any advice for the yet-to-be-published writers reading this?

Being an author is a tough road. You can work for years on a book, and have trouble finding readers, and/or making any money. You have to love the process. And be very patient.

What are you working on now?

Aside from promoting "Jane Street" I am doing research on the next book in the series, "The Dakota", which takes place, as you might guess, at The Dakota building.

What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with or follow you (i.e., website, personal blog, Facebook page, etc.) and link(s)?

About Jane Street: A Gripping Murder Mystery

In an attempt to put her tormented past behind her, Verity Townsend moves from Upstate New York to Manhattan with the hope of a fresh start as the Director of Development for a children’s charity, the Children’s Family Fund (CFF). As Verity’s dream to build a home for the orphans of CFF on historic Jane Street is about to be realized, the body of a young interior designer, Chloe Kingston, is found on site. Everyone involved with CFF is a suspect, including Verity, and two CFF board members, David Cohen, and the charming Ryker Rensselaer. Jane Street – the location where Alexander Hamilton, the famed American statesman and one of the Founding Fathers of our country, took his last breath after being killed back in 1804, has a tragic past. But what do Hamilton, Jane Street and Chloe’s death all have in common? Verity’s practical, no-nonsense personality has trouble accepting her gift as a medium, but in order to help Chloe, she must embrace this gift. Through a series of terrifying nightmares that haunt Verity’s sleep, Chloe gives clues to identify her murderer. Can Verity decipher the clues and find the killer, or will history repeat itself?
