Exclusive Interview
Your trajectory is quite impressive. Ranging from being a bible teacher, public speaker, photographer, and author. Please tell us how you manage your time and how your journey as an author started?
It began in 1992, with a God-inspired idea. I was working at the time as a manager of an internal IBM Computer Store at their headquarters building, located at that time in Rockville, MD. I had just closed up for the afternoon and was about to sit down and do my paperwork, when out of the blue, this thought came to mind… Imagine this: A young African-American woman, is brutally assaulted and raped and left for dead by her attacker, a derelict named Pitt, a man literally possessed . The woman becomes pregnant from the rape, but God decides to step in and take this dreadful situation that satan meant for evil and turn it completely around for good. Now, imagine this: God assigns a special Guardian Angel to her to protect her, and in order to do his job, he has to come to earth as a Black man (which in and of itself has its own set of circumstances) and finally, to teach Satan a lesson, and to inspire others, God decides to make the child from this rape the first Black President of the United States of America. And, all of Hell comes against her and her unborn son, and we follow her Angels’ attempt to protect them at all costs!.
I was floored and started writing immediately, after ten years and my book was written and published (2003) 5 years before Obama became President.
Please tell us a little about each of your books and the inspiration behind them.
Well, my very first book was entitled ‘Dark Things…’ that’s the one I just described. My very next one is the one we’re discussing today. It’s a ‘how-to’ manual on what’s termed ‘Spiritual Warfare’, it’s an easy to understand manual for lay people and ministers designed to train Believers in how to deal effectively with Satan’s negative challenges in one’s life. Most Believers know how to Pray. Most Believers know how to Praise. Most Believers know how to Worship, and Most Believers know how to Give. But the one thing, as a whole that we’ve never been taught how to do effectively, spiritually, is how to Fight. This manual shows us how the Lord did it, how He trained the Disciples to do it, and using the Word, how we can do it too.
Next was a book of Poetry, entitled ‘My Secret Heart…’ which is compiled of over 200 love poems from age 17 till several years ago written using my pen name, ‘Samishii Suzume’, ‘The Lonely Sparrow’. Its written from the heart, and is very passionate about the ups and downs of love. Following that, is an anthology of five inspirational, supernatural thrillers in a book entitled ‘Confessions of a Guardian Angel…’
And finally a slim little workbook entitled ‘Luke 10:19’ , about the authority God has given to Believers and how to walk in it.
What message(s) do you hope your readers will take away from your book “The Warrior's Agenda”?
One, encouragement. The knowledge that they are not alone and that there IS something they can do about whatever kind of situation that they are facing. Two, that God is FOR us, on our side, not against us. Three, that God’s Word works, but, that you have to understand how to work it and allow Him to work in your life. Four, it is NOT what you know about God’s Word that will work for you, but it is what you personally apply from God’s Word that will work for you. And finally that God is faithful and will see you through anything, health issues, financial crisis’s, etc.
As an author, what would you say were the three biggest struggles you faced while writing your book(s) and how did you overcome them?
Laziness – You must overcome this with discipline. Write. Make yourself do it, even when you don’t feel like it. Inspire yourself, read books by authors you like. They did it, so can you.
Discouragement- The Bible says David ‘Encouraged himself in the Lord’. Pray. Talk to the Lord about your book and ask or His help. Talk to yourself about your book and how you will finish it and see people thanking you for its positive impact on their lives.
Doubt/Fear- Don’t believe or accept the negative thoughts, doubts, and fears that come to mind. Reject them, and believe God’s promises and your dreams. He said He would give you the desires of your heart and that He would bless all you set your hands to do.
What’s the most surprising thing you learned about yourself as a person while you were writing your book(s)?
That I had a gift or talent for writing. I have always loved reading a good book. I discovered that I REALLY love writing one too! :-)
On a more personal note: Tell us a little about your “real” (non-writing) life — family, job, church life.
Well, I’m married to a beautiful woman named Velma, that the Lord brought into my life, we’ve been married going on 14 years and she has been a big encouragement to me down through the years, Some of her lovable traits have found their way into some of my books. I have three grown sons and my youngest son has two sons of his own now. I was formerly a manager for an outsourcing company but retired in 2001. My wife and I are ordained ministers, have spoken in countries as far away as Burma (now Myanmar) here in the US and presently, after a long layoff I am focused on writing the sequel to my first book Dark Things currently..
Who is a creative person (not a writer) who has influenced you and your work?
My mother, who passed away in 1998. She was a strong, attractive, compassionate, godly, woman, and very talented, and half Cherokee. She was a kind woman and the type of person who could inspire you by just being in the room.
Do you have any advice for aspiring authors who may be reading this?
Yes. Encourage yourself in your writing. There are more than enough negative voices in the world who love to tell you what you can’t do. You need to be the one to tell yourself what you can do. Study writing, get some good books on the subject, take a class at your local college or online. Develop a plan to submit your work and make your work the very best that you can, don’t just submit anything. Make it good. Ask friend and family that you can trust to read your work and give you feed back.
How can readers connect with you?
I can be contacted by email at: thewarriorsagenda@yahoo.com or by phone at:469 269-2103.
What’s next for you? What are you working on now?
Well, as I said earlier I am working on the sequel to Dark Things, and in addition working on some screenplay ideas too. Pray for a Brother! ☺
About the book
Special Forces... There are over 200 nations in the world. Many have large, well trained, armies. Within these armies are small elite groups of volunteers who train harder, fight harder, and are the first to fight in any conflict. Much is expected of them. They precede the regular army into combat and many times are the last to leave when the work is done. They are as important at the end of a war as they are in the beginning of one... They are highly trained, highly motivated, deeply committed, courageous Joshuas and Calebs who say, "Give me this mountain, sir."
Perhaps you haven't been told. Perhaps, my dear Christian brother or sister, you did not receive the memo. But we, are a Kingdom at war... At the end of WWII, the enemy had been defeated, but there were still major "pockets of resistance." Likewise, though defeated, Satan is still fighting to the death, still attacking with sin, sickness, poverty, depression, addictions, and the like. God has begun His mop-up campaign and already has a large standing army. But now, however, He is looking for volunteers as He prepares to shatter Satan's hold on the lives of millions. The Church is being moved beyond the defensive spiritual warfare of the past. God is bringing out His secret weapon. The British, have the SAS The U.S. Navy, has the SEAL's The U.S. Army, has the Green Berets, And the Kingdom of God, has You... Welcome to Warrior Training 101... This book is a practical 'how-to' guide on Effective Spiritual Warfare, for the Layman as well as the mature Spiritual Leader. Scripture based, it is written with insight, humor and in easy to understand language. As a Christian, if you have been saved for any length of time then... You already know how to Pray You already know how to Praise You already know how to Give You already know how to Worship Now, its time for you to learn from The Word of God, How to Fight...
