Exclusive Interview

Please tell our readers a little about yourself.

I am a businessman, a legal scholar, a political nerd, one who loves his country and a truth teller. I came to this country seeking opportunity and success that can only be achieved in America.

Could you tell us a bit about your book and why it is a must-read?

As Americans, we have become consumers of information rather than critical thinkers. Political correctness has silenced many of our voices and the republic is paying for it in its reactionary discourse which is void of civility. My book provides information and facts to the reader on topics ranging from, politics to the constitution, the education system, the race, term limits, and the social issues which divide Americans. It is not only about where we find ourselves, but it is also about why. This is a book for thinkers and it challenges assumptions.

What inspired you to write your book?

I wrote this book because I can longer stand by and watch the republic be destroyed by division.

Where is your favorite place to write?

The peace and serenity of the rainforest in Grenada, West Indies.

Do you have a special hangout or any writing rituals?

I don't know about rituals. As I begin to write, I simply pray for clarity of mind, body, and soul.

What’s the most surprising thing you learned about yourself while writing your book?

How much I can tune out the world around me when I am focused.

What do you find are the most rewarding aspects of being an author?

Being reflective, seeking the truth, seeking solutions, and the ability to influence others.

Who are some of the writers who have influenced you?

Thomas Sowell, Zora Neale Hurston, Charles Krauthammer, George Will, and Alexis de Tocqueville

On a more personal note: Tell us a little about your “real” (non-writing) life — family, job, hobbies, etc.

My family and I are very very close. I focus heavily on both of my parents. My children, my grandson, and my nieces and nephews are my pride and joy. I enjoy cooking, beautiful tastings of Pinot Noir and keeping healthy.

Who is a creative person (not a writer) who has influenced you and your work?

Kay Coles James, President of The Heritage Foundation

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who may be reading this interview?

Seek clarity, seek guidance, write about what you love and always seek the truth. Writer's block is real but so is passion.

What's next for you? What are you working on now?

There are current talks with another publisher to write another book. In the meantime, I am working on building my Radio Show Red America and launching the Dr. Christopher Metzler television show.

What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with or follow you (i.e., website, personal blog, Facebook page, etc.) and link(s)?

The U.S. lauds itself as a land of opportunity for both citizens and immigrants, but the country now faces a rash of issues and policies that have sharply divided us. If we do not address them, we face chaos…both domestically and globally.

With the election of Donald J. Trump to President in 2016, Middle America and conservatives rejoiced. Meanwhile many liberals melted down, not comprehending that a divided America did not start with President Trump. In actuality, the division was instigated by a left turn in politics enshrined in the courts, including unions which propped up the liberal agenda; a corrupt and incompetent Washington D.C.; an overall disgust with lawmakers; a failed education system; class warfare championed by liberal whites; a news media that believed its job was to tell us what to think; failed economic policies; rampant unemployment; the use of race as a weapon; a contempt displayed by liberal elites; and an out of control immigration system, where the “rights” of illegal immigrants were placed above Americans’ rights and foreign policies. But despite the mounting evidence, naysayers still fail to admit that the current state of division is, in part, because of the failed policies of the left.

In the 1960s, America embraced a sharp turn to the political left. Those policies included an overly-broad view of illegal immigration, unlimited entitlement, federal control of the education system, welfare as a handout and not a hand-up, an attempt to assure government control of healthcare, a collegiate system that has systematically silenced conservative voices, a federal government that gets in the way of providing solutions rather than solves issues, and a judiciary that makes law rather than interpret law. This book debunks the opinions behind these myths, allowing readers to make their own decisions about both the cause of these problems and the potential solutions.

Why is this book is important? Christopher Metzler is one of America’s premier conservative thinkers — and one of its most prominent black conservatives as well. Relentlessly, Dr. Metzler has tackled left-wing ideas from the economy to justice to racial stereotypes, His new book: Divided We Stand: the Search for America's Soul is an unapologetic look at the election of President Trump. His book destroys the failed policies of the left and deftly argues how true conservatism is the solution to healing a divided America. The biggest and most sobering theme is that many noble intents have inadvertent consequences... sometimes directly undermining the original intent.Dr. Metzler writes in simple understandable terms that build upon each other like bricks forming compelling arguments. If more voters read Divided We Stand: The Search for America's Soul, we would demand more than nice sounding platitudes from our elected representatives. We would judge them by their results and not just their flowery promises. No matter what side of the political spectrum you reside in, testing policies against their consequences is a skill we all need to develop. we need to be more critical of ourselves, as we look in the mirror, if we want to build a truly just society.
