1. You mentioned that creating BDSM erotica wasn't something you initially expected. Can you share the moment or experience that changed your perspective and led you down this path?
I have a very visual mind and have always been drawn to kink—vanilla never quite did it for me. During a time when I had no job, no spouse, and no outlet for my sexuality, I guess you could call it a midlife crisis. One day, I opened Microsoft Word and started typing. My entire first book, the first edition of Submitting to the Cuckcake, poured out in one shot. It felt like the story had been waiting inside me all along. But what struck me most was how deeply I experienced the story as I wrote it.
2. How do you develop your characters to ensure they feel authentic, especially in such complex dynamics?
I don’t consciously develop my characters—they come to me. I feel their experiences as if I’m living them, and through that, their stories unfold naturally. I embody their essence, their desires, and their struggles, letting them guide me from start to finish.
3. What specific traits do you find most compelling in your protagonists?
What I find most compelling is their intense desire for pleasure and the need to be loved through their fetish. In my stories, the fetish itself is the main protagonist. Both the submissive and the dominant are bound to it—without the fetish, there is no submission, and without a submissive, there is no dominant. It’s this unrelenting need to be loved through their fetish that drives every action and decision.

I aim for realism in how relationships develop—how characters meet, connect, and evolve—but I don’t aim for realism when it comes to the BDSM itself. Novels, especially in this genre, are meant to be extreme. I push boundaries because that’s what fiction allows, and that’s where the most intense stories are born.

Experiencing BDSM without love is incomparable to experiencing it with love. Love adds layers of trust, vulnerability, and depth that elevate every moment of submission and dominance.

As far as I know, there aren’t many reliable resources that accurately portray BDSM relationships. It remains one of the most misrepresented and misunderstood aspects of human psychology. My understanding comes from years of studying human psychology, a field that has always fascinated me. When I began exploring BDSM, the psychology behind the intense desire for pleasure and the deep need to be loved through one’s fetish clicked for me, becoming the core of my stories.
8. How do you ensure that the themes of consent and boundaries are clearly communicated in your narratives, especially in a genre that can be misunderstood?
Consent and boundaries are built into the structure of my stories. The way each story unfolds and concludes makes it clear that every action is desired, even when it seems intense or extreme.
9. Your writing is described as vivid and imaginative. What techniques do you use to create such immersive scenarios that resonate with readers?
My writing is vivid because I experience what my characters experience. I don’t create scenes—I live them in my mind and then put them into words as best I can.
10. Do you find that your own experiences or relationships influence the stories you tell? How much of Y.Z. Blue is reflected in the characters you create?
My own experiences don’t influence my stories. When I write, my characters take over. I feel what they feel, and they write their own stories through me. This allows me to write stories across a wide range of BDSM fetishes, each with its own unique depth and authenticity.
11. How do you hope your readers feel after finishing one of your stories? What kind of conversations do you wish to inspire around BDSM?
I want readers to walk away with a deeper understanding of BDSM—especially the profound love that can exist within it. I hope my stories inspire more awareness of how it’s the fetish that truly binds dominants and submissives. Dominants need to understand that they aren’t truly in charge—the submissive’s unique fetish is the real authority. If a dominant speaks the submissive’s language of desire, they gain complete devotion. But if they fail to understand and fulfill that need, they will eventually lose the submissive.
12. Can you tease any upcoming projects or themes you are excited to explore in your next book? Will you continue to delve into the psychological aspects of BDSM?
I have several projects in mind. In vanilla relationships, love is often seen as 50/50—but in BDSM, it’s 100/100. The dominant must give 100% to the submissive their desires for it to be real and not abuse, and when done right, the submissive—once they fall into the submissive state—has no choice but to give 100% of themselves to their dominant, whether in a 24/7 dynamic or just in the bedroom. It’s a profound exchange that deserves to be explored openly and honestly.
