1. In your experiences as a psychiatric mental health nurse, how have you seen faith play a role in patients' healing processes, and what insights have you gained from those interactions?
Faith has played a profound role in many patients' healing journeys, often providing a sense of hope, purpose, and resilience. As a psychiatric mental health nurse, I’ve witnessed individuals who felt overwhelmed by depression, anxiety, or trauma find comfort in their faith. For some, prayer or meditation served as a source of inner peace, while others found strength in Scripture or in their belief that they were not alone in their struggles. I’ve learned that when faith is integrated into mental health care, it can be an essential part of the healing process, offering individuals not only emotional support but also a deeper sense of meaning in the midst of suffering. This has reaffirmed for me the importance of acknowledging the spiritual aspect of healing, as it often brings a dimension of hope that complements traditional medical treatments.
2. Can you share a specific moment from your journey that profoundly shaped your perspective on adversity and resilience?
One defining moment in my journey was when I faced a personal crisis that seemed insurmountable—a period when I was dealing with tragedy and loss. During this time my sister committed suicide and I remember feeling completely lost, questioning everything I had believed in. But it was in that dark season that I truly experienced the transformative power of God’s grace. I realized that resilience wasn’t just about pushing through with strength alone, but about trusting God’s process for my life and allowing myself the space to heal. The moment I embraced my vulnerability and surrendered my fears to God, I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This experience shaped my understanding of resilience: it’s not about never falling, but about rising with the assurance that God will always restore what’s been broken.
3. How do you integrate your roles as an author, life coach, and entrepreneur to create a holistic approach to helping others?
My roles as an author, life coach, and entrepreneur are deeply interconnected by my mission to empower others. As an author, particularly with my memoir Healing the Hurt of Yesterday, I provide a personal narrative of overcoming trauma, which offers hope and encouragement to those facing similar struggles. As a life coach, I guide individuals in applying the principles of faith, resilience, and purpose to their own lives, helping them navigate challenges and develop strategies for personal growth. As an entrepreneur and the owner of a marketing and advertisement company, I use my platform to build and share resources that amplify these messages. Together, these roles create a holistic approach where faith, strategy, and practical guidance intersect, offering both emotional and practical tools for individuals to heal, grow, and thrive.
4. What challenges did you face when starting Gaff & Associates, and how did your faith guide you through those initial hurdles?
Starting Gaff & Associates was a leap of faith. One of the biggest challenges was the uncertainty of venturing into entrepreneurship and the fear of failure. I questioned if I had the right skills, connections, and resources to succeed. There were times when I felt overwhelmed by the pressures of running a business while staying true to my Christian values. But my faith in God’s plan kept me grounded. I leaned on prayer, believing that if I was walking in my purpose, He would open the doors I needed. Whenever challenges arose, I would remind myself that God's timing is perfect and that His plans are always greater than my own. My faith has been the anchor that kept me steady during those early, uncertain days.
5. In your opinion, what are the most common misconceptions people have about mental health and faith, and how do you address them in your work?
One major misconception is that faith and mental health cannot coexist or that individuals of faith should not experience mental health struggles. Some people believe that having faith means you should automatically be healed or that mental health issues are a sign of weakness or lack of faith. In my work, I address this by emphasizing that faith is not a cure-all, but it is a source of strength, guidance, and comfort. Mental health struggles are real, and it’s okay to seek professional help, while also turning to faith for support. I encourage individuals to view their mental health journey as an opportunity for both spiritual and emotional growth, where faith can complement therapeutic interventions.
6. How do you balance your professional responsibilities with your personal life, and what strategies do you use to maintain your own mental and emotional health?
Balancing professional and personal life is essential for maintaining mental and emotional health, and I’ve learned to prioritize self-care. I make sure to set clear boundaries between work and personal time, ensuring that I am fully present with my family and in my spiritual practices. Prayer and quiet time with God are integral to my mental health routine. I also engage in physical activities like walking or yoga, which help to reduce stress and increase my energy levels. I remind myself that I can’t pour into others if I’m not replenished, so I carve out time for rest and reflection. My faith teaches me the importance of honoring my body and spirit, and this has been crucial in maintaining balance.
7. What role does community play in the healing process, and how do you encourage individuals to seek supportive relationships in their journeys?
Community is an essential part of the healing process. We are not meant to journey through life alone, and having a supportive community provides not only encouragement but also accountability. Whether it’s a faith-based group, a support network, or even professional counseling, I encourage individuals to seek relationships that lift them up. In my work, I stress the importance of connecting with others who understand their struggles and who can offer compassion and support. I also help clients recognize that they can be a source of strength for others, creating a cycle of healing and empowerment.
8. Can you discuss a particular success story from your coaching or consulting work that illustrates the transformative power of faith and perseverance?
One success story that stands out involves a client who had experienced significant trauma and was struggling to regain control of their life. They felt hopeless, unable to move forward. Through coaching, we explored their relationship with God and how their faith could help them find strength in their adversity. We worked on reframing their struggles as opportunities for growth, and they began to tap into their inner resilience, drawing on both their faith and newfound coping strategies. Over time, they not only healed from the trauma but also launched their own small business, helping others who faced similar challenges. This transformation was a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that God uses our struggles for a higher purpose.
9. As you continue to grow in your various roles, what new goals or projects are you currently pursuing, and how do they align with your mission of empowerment?
Currently, I’m working on expanding my reach by developing an online platform where I can offer coaching, workshops, and resources for individuals looking to heal and grow. I’m also working on a follow-up book to Healing the Hurt of Yesterday, which will provide actionable steps for healing from trauma and embracing resilience. These projects align with my mission of empowerment by offering practical tools and spiritual guidance to those who need it most. My goal is to continue to impact lives by blending faith, strategy, and personal development to help people step into their God-given purpose.
10. How do you envision the future of your work in helping others, and what legacy do you hope to leave behind for those you inspire?
I envision my work expanding into a global movement of healing and empowerment, where individuals from all walks of life can access the resources and support they need to overcome adversity. I hope to create a legacy where people recognize that their struggles don’t define them, but their faith and resilience do. I want to be remembered as someone who encouraged others to embrace their true identity in Christ, to heal from their past, and to step boldly into the future with hope and purpose. My ultimate desire is that the work I do continues to inspire others long after I’m gone, creating a ripple effect of positive change in the world.
